It has been a great year for the Millennium Hotel, and it can thank our neighbors to the north. Canadians have been coming over in droves, shopping nearby at the Walden Galleria.

"We have exceeded budgets and forecasts every day," said Paul LeMere of the Millenium hotel.

7 News spoke to a Canadian family that has been here to shop, and now spends the day before flying out from Buffalo.

"There are lots of deals to be had here," said Kim Hughes.

Shoppers not only helping businesses, they are also helping out Erie County. The Comptroller announcing that sales tax revenue is 12 million dollars over budget. While the state does not track where sales tax is coming from, Mark Poloncarz believes the money is due to cross border spending.

"Based on anecdotal evidence we have obtained for other counties in New York State, Erie County's growth may actually be the largest in New York State," said Poloncarz.

Erie County Executive Chris Collins says when it comes to the extra revenue, they will look at liabilities from 2007. And then if there still is a surplus, try to build up the county's piggy bank, which took a major hit during the budget crisis.

"Absent any other surprises this money would build up our reserves, which would still, even with that, only be 50 percent of where Wall Street would expect them to be," said Collins.
