PRESS RELEASE
Mark Poloncarz Endorsed by Erie County Democratic Committee for Re-Election
Receives Unanimous Endorsement Based on record of Being The Taxpayers' Watchdog
May 27, 2009
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Erie County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz today received the endorsement of the Erie County Democratic Committee (“Committee”) for re-election as County Comptroller.
In a unanimous vote, the Democratic Party’s Executive Committee endorsed Poloncarz, who was elected to his first public office in 2005 and is seeking re-election in November 2009. The Committee noted that Poloncarz’s record in conducting more than 30 audits and reviews, creating whistleblower hotlines, stopping waste, fraud and abuse, and creating new electronic and accounting mechanisms to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of county government were all major factors behind their endorsement.
Poloncarz said, “I am proud to once again receive the endorsement of the Erie County Democratic Committee. I was honored to receive the Party’s support in 2005 and look forward to continuing to take my message of independence, accountability, and professionalism to the taxpayers and voters.”
Erie County Democratic Chairman Leonard Lenihan stated, “Mark Poloncarz has demonstrated time and time again that Democratic values and efficient, responsible government go hand-in-hand. Mark has earned our party’s support and we look forward to assisting him in his campaign.”
Poloncarz added, “The voters have repeatedly said that they want an independent taxpayer watchdog in the Comptroller’s office to oversee the County’s finances and monitor the County Executive and County Legislature. I am proud to serve our community in that role.”
Poloncarz also has received the endorsement of the Working Families Party.
