Lawsuit is settled with photocopier vendor
July 19, 2009
Erie County has settled a lawsuit with its photocopier vendor. Comptroller Mark C. Poloncarz said the agreement will cost the county thousands of dollars less than the vendor had sought.
In a lawsuit filed in 2008, Duplicating Consultants demanded as much as $1.3 million and billed the county more than $1 million for rented machines.
At the request of the county’s attorneys, the comptroller’s office reviewed the county’s award of the photocopier contract in 2006 and concluded it was improper. The comptroller also concluded the county might have been overcharged and did not owe the amount claimed.
The county’s lawyers and Duplicating Consultants settled for thousands of dollars less. The county paid the firm $603,000 and agreed to a monthly charge of $50,575 from January 2009 to December 2011.
